This week lap is another fun one!
On the FS, I start form Red Snapper sim or Sculpin.
I make sure to build up speed with the spin up until the high grounds in Weever, then I aim for the East buoy of the startline and try to maintain full speed until first mark...
After the 1st mark, it is a long close-hauled leg to mark #2. I time my tack with the start-line in The Masthead sim.
Crossing in the middle of the line should take you to the mark in Bildad.
I then raise the spinnaker at mark #2, and bear away towards next mark, staying in the 65-70-awa range as long as possible to accelerate to full speed.
The wind angle is such that, when at full speed, I need to drop the spin. However, one could let it fly all the way, the impact on the chrono either way is not very significant, I think.
After mark #3, I don't gybe right away, but wait a few boat lengths to be sure to clear the mark #4 at the other end of the line in Queequeg sim.
The next 2 marks are quite technical on the FS: drop spin, reel in sheets, hike out, all at once as I round mark #5, trying to scrape the mark without touching it.
Then, same in reverse at the next mark: raise spin, let sheets go, but remain in fully hiked-out position as I accelerate towards the Skeleton Island.
I almost forgot: there is a tack before the mark too!
I drop the spin after entering Ahab's Haunt sim, just before reaching the tip of the island.
A key to a good time is to keep the speed momentum as long as possible as you close in on the wind.
Cutting the way short is also important: so I tack just before the sim cross to Queequeg, remaining in Ahab's Haunt to round the other island tip.
Next is another spin hoist, which I do just before the pier.
The last leg starts as a reach along the island. Watch out for the seagulls (don't hit them!)
Then, as you clear the island with good speed, the leg turns into a run for the finish line, at about 140AWA.
The sheets should be almost all out as you sit comfortably on the trampoline, doing the little adjustments both in bearing and sheets trim to maintain good speed.
Cross the line as close as possible to the Eastern buoy to shorten the run
The rest is up to y'all to find out about... Fair winds, and great thanks to all the HL team.. Cheers
