Boat was frozen with an "object not allowed on parcel" message sailing just starboard of position 4 Denny.

Was thrown out of boat twice but managed to stop boat, reboard and resume. *laughs. I may be slow but I made it to the finish line!

The “Bacardi Bat” did it again! Fast time foiling on the FS. I sailed 3 laps so far with the FS. First one: got a time-out in the pre-start, so didn’t register a time. It was a decent lap, for a first on the FS after sailing with my ACs. But largely improvable. Second try was better, but I did not go past the upwind part, crashing on the simcross to the last sim before turning back (I think I hit the corner into LUSON). Finally a good fast lap: some of the best upwind I’ve sailed, up to 12.3/12.4 knots at 30-32awa, and fine sailing back on the run, on the same tack nearly all the way from the lighthouse island to Kinrara. Ok, all was not perfect, I stalled a few times upwind, got the sails off a bit on the run, and there are ways to tweak the navigation a little better. Also, I got a big scare on one simcross, almost losing it all altogether. Fortunately, I was back inboard quickly, and managed to restore camera without losing too much. So i am quite happy with that lap. Especially, my new way of tacking, playing with the jib sheet to ease into the tack, then letting go back as the sails fill after the tack...
next: the way I sailed the lap

Bandit IF is, I feel, disadvantaged by the very long upwind leg, it's so skittish and luffy when close hauled with a decent wind, single handed at least. No worries, I really enjoyed the challenging course anyway. However, I can't let someone posting an impossible class time for the correct course and wind, on their one and only lap, pass without comment.

As announced, my "how-to" for the Flying Shadow...
The start: go as as far North as necessary to build up speed such that you come crossing the line nearly at full speed. After passing the line, aim slightly North of the SE corner of CHALVEZ (i.e. closer to wind than necessary) before bearing away aiming just South of the corner. This little trick will help you maintain speed more easily on the close reach. On the upwind, it is up to you to chose where to tack… I try to push the tack as long as possible usually, but there are times here when it is better not to do so. For instance in GRIDDLEBONE and MACAVITY, I set up my tacks anticipating how I will be getting past the islands in Denny: I want to make sure I can sail as close to that island as possible, staying close-hauled. This is essential to be able to clear the next 2 corners, first at DENNY SE, then at LIMONA SE. I position the final 2 tacks close to the lighthouse isle in SPELLO, then last one in VICENTINO to fetch the mark #3. Rounding the mark in VINCENTINO, raise the spin and ease the sheet. By turning close to the buoy, you can clear the corner without gybing. Reel in the sheets as you accelerate towards the NW corner of LUSON. Drop the spin before the simcross, so you are well trimmed as you aim for the next mark on beam reach. Again, raise spin as you get to the mark at VIPITENO (or right after when you are on the correct bearing, if you don’t feel comfortable with the bear-away spin set-up) This short leg to the lighthouse is important to build up speed before the run back to KINRARA. Once you clear the lighthouse, push a little bit more SW, until you can draw a W-NW line across the sims towards the islands in DENNY. From then on, it is one long leg, running and reaching, where you will need to trim your sails to keep speed up. The danger here is to keep the sails too tight, even if in the green.. you should always be just 1-2 clicks from luffing sails (yellow) to maximize speed on the run. Also, watch out how speed reacts to your hiking: you should be in the centre of the trampoline, so that the boat is a little heeled… One last big transition to anticipate is the corner of PONSONBY to CHALVEZ. Don’t take risks here: leave room at the corner, you don’t need to fall off the boat or break the camera as you enter the last part of this long Hotlap! Hike out fully as you get to a reaching angle, about 70-75AWA, aiming for the island in KINRARA. Drop the spin about 50-100m from the island, i.e. after entering KINRARA sim. Pull the sheets firmly but not too fast as you close the angle to the wind. Here, a little luff is better than too tight to keep the speed momentum. Tack as soon as you are clear of the piers to the North of the line. Let go the sheets as you bear away to a beam reach… You may even raise the spin if you feel like it in the last meters. Congrats ! You made it back !
