There is a difference between the course here on the website and the course chart issued in-world. The actual course has 6 waypoints, whereas the issued chart (and USB notecard) has an extra waypoint in Rafeiraga, i.e., in the water to the south-west of the Silver Serpent airfield. Oops? Edit: Sorted. Thanks Sunnycin

Thanks to the Brightflames for hosting us and to the Hotlaps Team for making this the fun and friendly event it is. My take on this week's lap: We are back in more open waters, with a downwind start for a change.
I see 2 options regarding the start: either come running/reaching, aiming to the center of the line, with 2 gybes to do to first mark, or aim for the Western end of the line on a reaching angle and gybe before the line. I tend to prefer the 2nd solution as it saves one gybe while the timer runs, since the 1st of 2 gybes is done before crossing the start-line. It is a bit more risky start though, and slightly more difficult to manage, as there is not much room for that pre-start gybe (it took me a few tries on the AC45 before timing it right).
After that first mark, it is open-water sailing : focus on your bearing and sails trim.
Rounding the marks at Betacourt (#2) and Couse (#4) are hardest as they involve change of sails and heavy trimming in most boats.
On the beat to last mark, I prefer to tack early so I can do a clean bear away around the mark (especially true on fast cats). I made the mistake twice on the Trudeau, going too far on the first upwind tack, sailing way past the lay line to last mark, costing me much extra distance and time (first was a nav error, I was discovering the course.. second was a genuine mistake). On the other hand, be wary of the shallows on the East in the upwind legs with deep keel boats, dont turn too early on that first tack.
Finally, regarding obstacles and unexpected surprises, not much to say except for the seagulls in Repaci sim: I counted 4 of them. Their position is about REPACI 55, 112. Avoid them at all cost or stop dead as you hit them! Sailing in the upper half of the sim (y>128) should be safe.
